Interview with Debiparna Chakraborty Fashion Blogger

Today’s Interview is with Debiparna Chakraborty (FlySongBird Blog Owner). And here are our questions!

Q: How did you first become interested in fashion and why is it important for you?

Debiparna: Even as a kid I had a pretty good idea about what I liked wearing and what I didn’t. I think you can tell how a person is from the way they dress and believe how people should dress. Fashion is essentially a very cultural thing. We choose through our appearances primarily whether we want to stand out or meld into our surroundings.

Q: What inspires you? Who are your favorite designers?

Debiparna: I am mostly inspired by artistic and creative people. The ones who aren’t afraid of being a bit or a lot different than their peers in their outlook towards life are the ones who create an atmosphere I want to surround myself with all the time. I don’t have any particular favorite designer. I keep an eye out for everyone’s work. So my favor is very much collection based. But I thoroughly enjoy designers like Yohji Yamamoto, Gareth Pugh, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Kallol Datta and Masaba Gupta.

Q: What was the most expensive thing you have ever bought?

Debiparna: I don’t know! I tend to not remember pieces in my wardrobe like that. I am a budget person. So even when I go shopping I don’t go overboard. I don’t think I have anything which is beyond INR3000-3500 (which is not a gift). I haven’t been able to justify spending more than that on anything else so far.

Q: What are your cost saving tips? Can you share them with our readers?

Debiparna: Always work within a budget! Always ask yourself, “Do I really need this?”, “Will I love it after it stops being trendy?” before buying something unless you know it is an indulgence you can afford. If you regret buying something and can’t return it then give it away to a friend or cousin who may like it. It’s much better that way than having it haunt you as it lies unused and rots in some corner.

Q: What things do you choose to save money on?

Debiparna: Bags and shoes. I know being a student I can get away with it for now. I have a very small collection of bags and shoes that I mix and match with all my outfits.

Q: Do you have money saving tips for our readers when it comes to fashion?

Debiparna: Prioritize and keep an eye out for good bargains.

Q: What do you think about taking out a loan for buying something you love? Have you ever taken a loan?

Debiparna: I have never taken any loans yet.

Q: What are your TOP 5 favorite fashion blogs and why? Do you mind if we interview them too?

Debiparna: Fashion Bombay, Fated to be Hated, Gabifresh, Jean Greige by Madeline Pendleton and Republic Of Chic are probably the top 5 though I love a whole lot of other blogs too (they are mentioned on my blog).
