Interview with Sonia Fashion BloggerToday’s Interview is with Sonia (Miss Trendy Kitty Blog Owner). And here are our questions!

Q: How did you first become interested in fashion and why is it important for you?

Sonia: My Mum was always very stylish, she always dedicated a lot of attention to beauty and personal style. When I was little, I used to play with her beauty products and I always thought she’s so beautiful, with her long, blonde hair, and curls bouncing off her shoulders…

I used to say: “My Mum is the most beautiful Mum in the World!” Today, some of the best pieces in my wardrobe, are the unique jewellery & clothes that belonged to her and she gave them to me now. Unfortunately, when I was growing up, we stopped thinking about the fashion, as when I was at the age of 10, in my country Croatia, started the war, and all we worried about was the food on our table. Those were very dark years, and even if we wanted to think about the fashion, there were litterally no fashion stores, or those one- two that we had, were just really sad. In my teenager years, the war ended, and things were slowly getting back to normal, but it took me a lot of time to start gaining interest in the fashion again.

When I graduated high-school, I went to study to Milan, Italy. Milan is italian, and world’s centre of fashion, and there is when I felt inspired again! I was surrounded by all these fashion stores, from high-end, to high-street ones, to even italian open markets, “mercatino” as they call them in Italy, and there is where the magic happened, there is where my love & passion for fashion happened!

I was also very inspired by the italian street style, so when I returned home to Croatia, my style was just completely re-vamped! After that, life took me to London, UK, where I spent one year, and there I fell in love with thrift store shopping and my style developed further more.

Fashion is important to me because I look at it as a way of expressing myself and my personality. I enjoy being able to express myself, my personality, or just my mood of that day, through the clothes that I’m wearing. I enjoy always coming up with different outfits, experimenting and kind of reinventing myself through clothes every single day, and developing my style into…who knows which direction! This is what excites me about fashion, there is no “right” or “wrong”, but it’s all just a big game to me!

Q: What inspires you? Who are your favorite designers?

Sonia: I work as a part-time sales assistant, so just being in the fashion store every single weekend, surrounded with always new clothes & new styles coming in, is a source of an inspiration! I also get inspired by the street style, just seeing what other girls are wearing.

Some fashion blogs that I follow, always inspire me, to put together a similar outfit, from the clothes I already have in my wardrobe. Occasionally I’ll browse through a fashion mag and get my fashion fix from there too :)

Interview with Sonia Fashion BloggerQ: What was the most expensive thing you have ever bought?

Sonia: I honestly can’t remember! I usually don’t buy very expensive things, I’m into bargain shopping and always on a hunt for a good deals! I’m always the most excited when I manage to find great quality things for less!

If we’re talking about fashion, I guess the most expensive things I own are some boots and winter coats… If we’re talking about beauty products, then my most expensive purchase would have to be my hair straightener!

Q: What are your cost saving tips? Can you share them with our readers?

Sonia: Some of my saving tips are:

Keep a journal, or just a track of your purchases. Don’t throw away receipts and be aware of how much money did you spend during the month on beauty & fashion things.

Don’t buy on an impulse, but think twice before making a purchase: Is this something you really need, love, and will have a lot of usage out of?

Don’t spend loads for very trendy items, just because it’s in style at the moment, the next season they might go out of style and you will probably regret your purchase, paying so much money for it.

Before splurging on expensive beauty product, ask your sales assistant for a samples, so you can test the product out on your skin, and make sure it’ll work well for you!

The positive reviews you’ve read on the internet might not always be a 100% guarantee that this particular product will work well on your skintype too!

Set yourself a monthly budget according to your financial possibilities and try to stay within that amount when summing up all your monthly purchases.

Q: What things do you choose to save money on?

Sonia: I save money on clothes as I’m always shopping on sales, promotions, fashion outlets or thrift stores. I also save money on restaurants ( I eat out only occasionally), and drinks. On my lunch breaks, instead of buying lunch at restaurant, I take a home made lunch with me (that I prepared the evening before work). I don’t drink alcohol, I don’t smoke, I stay away from junk food, so all this helps me save some money and it adds up to my monthly budget being higher :)

Q: Do you have money saving tips for our readers when it comes to fashion?

Sonia: When it comes to fashion, I’d advise to my readers to head down to the fashion outlets, or thrift stores. It’s amazing how many great deals can one find there and save up to 80%!

Also, shop at sales, and shop for a good quality items that will last you a long time, also shop for a versatile items that you can wear in different occasions, classics that you can then update with a trendy pieces of accessories.

Don’t buy on an impulse, or just because it’s on sale, or just because everybody is wearing this style at the moment. Be sure that you love the item you’re about to purchase and that you’ll have a lot of usage out of it in the future!

Q: What do you think about taking out a loan for buying something you love? Have you ever taken a loan?

Sonia: I personally can’t justify taking a loan to buy a clothing item, a bag, a pair of shoes, make up or anything similar! I have taken a loan to buy my appartment, and in the past, to buy my car. Those are the things I consider worth taking a loan, because taking a loan is a serious matter and one should be very responsible when applying for it.

Q: What are your TOP 5 favorite fashion blogs and why? Do you mind if we interview them too?
